FAQ – AB-Test Optimization

AB Test for a better performance of a website

With an AB Test you can evaluate 2 or more versions of a website. The main focus is on performance in terms of visitor numbers, length of stay, bounce rate and sales.

When should you perform an AB Test?

You should always perform an AB Test when:

  • makes changes to your website
    Landingpages used
    Google Ads campaigns switches
    Other search engines Ads switches

You can measure the performance of an entire website or examine important areas of a website in more detail, providing valuable insights into SEM. Especially search engine advertising and of course for an improved search engine optimization.

Example of an AB Test

Let’s say you add a new contact form to your website. Then you would like to know how the new contact form is received by visitors. You ask yourself the question: Are there more contact requests because the field phone number is no longer a mandatory field? Then you compare both variants with an AB Test and can make constant improvements to the contact form.

Which variants of AB-Test are there?

The well known AB Test

Here one compares 2 or more versions of a URL and decides on the basis of the numbers which of the versions is most successful.

A split test with forwarding

This is a variant of the AB Test, which randomly redirects website visitors to several different variants of a URL. The split test then evaluates the results and determines the most successful variant.

The MVT Test

An MVT test provides valuable insights into specific areas of a website that are related to images, call to action H1 headlines or colors. The MVT test determines which versions are most successful and are well received by the website visitor.

Where should you do AB Test?

AB Test can be used for websites, online shops or mobile apps. With the API you can also use a software to analyse data and produce automated versions or campaigns. It is helpful to have a concrete plan for this. This should be created when you have identified a problem on your website and already have an idea of how to solve the problem. The most important areas of a website should be tested permanently, because this is where the number of sales, contact requests or requests for action to the user often decide.

AB Test with Google Optimize

Software vendors that enable AB-Test and provide very good evaluations are available in numerous variants. Google Analytics has discontinued its content testing in 2019, but replaced it with the new Google Optimize module. Google Optimzie enables the implementation of all variants mentioned in this article.
